March 25th is International Waffle Day
you're looking for something to do today then grab a plate because it's
International Waffle Day! Slap on some butter and drown it in
maple syrup! Let's get right into celebrating International
WHY IS THIS A
Well, traditionally in Sweden this is also the day they'd
to as the first day of spring because they don't have set days for when
the seasons start. They go by observations like whenever the average
daily temperature is above zero degrees Celsius. So, you don't really
know when spring starts until after the fact but it's a lot more
accurate than saying it always starts on the same day every year. BUT
for some reason, traditionally, this is the day they'd refer to as the
first day of spring. That being said, why does that matter?
around this time the hens would start laying eggs again and the Swedish
people would start cooking up things like crisp waffles. And the
tradition stuck and turned into an International holiday!
crisp babies have been loved for years and are actually quite easy to
make if you have a waffle iron. The mix is very similar to a pancake
mix but the end result is a beautifully round treat full of syrup
traps. Most people like to slap butter on them quickly so that it melts
and then cover it in their favorite syrup. And to be honest, I prefer
them instead of pancakes ;). Dig in!
So how can you celebrate today? Well, if you want to take it
easy then just head to a restaurant and get yourself some freshly-made
waffles. If you're up early enough you can get them for breakfast and
if not you can get some chicken and waffles. Either way you're going to
have a relaxing celebration!
Or if you'd like to eat waffles in
the comfort of your own home you can pick up some frozen ones. They
might not be as good but hey... you can eat them without your pants on
if you want! And plus you're always welcome to get a little creative
and pick up a bunch of different kinds of syrups to try out on your
waffles. Maple always hits the spot for me but there are many different
flavors out there. There's strawberry, blueberry, raspberry,
coconut, french vanilla... heck, Jim Beam even makes a bourbon syrup!
And if you have a waffle iron a little bit of time you can
up some waffle batter and make your own. This is the best way to
celebrate in my mind because you know what goes in them and they're as
fresh as can be! You can even add in your own special ingredients to
see what type of awesome waffle creations you can come up
How about some waffles with little chunks of Snickers bars in
them? Or make you could put slivers of bacon in your waffles!
Regardless of what you decide to do to celebrate today, I
you enjoy your crater-filled disks of goodness!
