If you're looking for something to do today then grab a plate and a fork because it's National Bavarian Cream Pie Day!  Don't worry; it won't fill you up too much!  But let's get right into celebrating National Bavarian Cream Pie Day!


Well, pies are loved by many, so it's already off to a good start. But the Bavarian cream pie is so light, that it almost makes you think that it can't really be that unhealthy to eat. So you have another slice, right? And when people aren't throwing these pies in each others' faces, they seem to devour the pie quicker than a Hungry Hungry Hippo. So if you're into smashing them into faces or smashing them with your teeth, you know that the popularity of this pie calls for yet another celebration.  Now a cream pie is just a custard or pudding mixture that is usually popped inside a baked crust and topped with some kind of whipping topping. There are a lot of different flavors, and yes comedians do enjoy throwing them into random faces from time to time, but we're here for the Bavarian cream pie. And a Bavarian cream is thickened thanks to some lovely gelatin.

But before everything sets up, you slip in some whipped cream to lighten things up even more. You can even flavor it with extracts or liqueur, if you like, but you need to chill it so that it gets all firm. I mean, if it stayed in liquid form, good luck trying to serve up a slice of pie! But once it's firm, you can get all crazy and decorate with your whipped topping and you're good to go.  Care for a slice? 


So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, for those of you who aren't too good in the kitchen or just don't have time to spare, you can head to a bakery or a restaurant and get your fill of Bavarian cream pie. I mean, that is the easiest option, right? And you could even be a bit bold and try pies that have different flavors and toppings on them. OK, I guess that's not that bold... if it's on the menu, someone else is doing it too!

But, if you do have some time and are pretty decent in the kitchen then go ahead and make your own! I mean, you can get the Bavarian cream already in a tube and just squirt it into your pie crust, if you want. All that's required of you is to bake the crust, squirt in the cream, let it chill and then top it with some whipped magic! That's not that hard, right?  But hey, let's get creative! It's a special day for this pie, so do something special with it. You could flavor it with some random extract and then enjoy the faces people make when they realize it's not vanilla it's... mango? Or heck, skip the extract and use a flavored gelatin. Imagine the possibilities there! And who says you can't top it with some chocolate whipped topping?
