If you're looking for something to do today then how about we raise your status a little because it's National Caviar Day!  I bet you can't wait to get some fish eggs in your mouth!  Let's get right into celebrating National Caviar Day!

WHY IS THIS A HOLIDAY?

You are probably wondering why in the heck would anyone want to celebrate eating fish eggs, right? Well, a lot of people actually consume them and most of them happen to be pretty dang rich. I can say that because this stuff is expensive, if you get the good stuff, so the only people who care to plop down that kind of money for... plop on a cracker, are rich people. And man does the upper class love to celebrate! So given their love for parties, it's obvious that they will want to celebrate these expensive eggs. And they do; today!  Caviar normally refers to the non-fertilized roe, or masses of eggs, from wild sturgeon that live in the Caspian and Black Sea. Caviar from fish that meet those guidelines are seen as the highest quality caviar, which means you better be pulling out some extra money. There are even special caviar spoons that are made out of mother of pearl so that the spoon doesn't taint the flavor of the caviar. Now that's classy! And where do they spoon the caviar? Onto some high class crackers, of course!

But, if you can't really afford the specific type of caviar above, there are different fish eggs that are still referred to as caviar. You can munch on some steelhead, salmon or even trout eggs and still say you had caviar. I love salmon, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy eating their eggs. You can even eat the eggs from whitefish or lumpfish and you'll be in the clear too. But if you opt for lumpfish eggs, don't look up pictures of this fish before you eat them. Trust me; they are not pretty to look at!  Go grab your special spoon and slap some eggs on a cracker!

HOW TO CELEBRATE

So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, you can simply head on down to your local deli, grocery store or perhaps one of the many stores that specialize in selling caviar. If you want some really high quality caviar, and you don't have any of the specialty stores around you, then you can always look them up online. Sure, you'll pay a pretty penny to have them quickly ship you the caviar, but if you're buying true caviar then you can afford it! But hey, don't slack... get yourself the special spoon and some fancy crackers too!  Then you can invite over your friends, no matter how much money they have in their bank account, and see what happens when you pull out your caviar. I think it'd be fun to set up maybe a night watching the game or something along those lines. And before you order any wings or pizza, you break out your appetizer and see who is willing to eat the stuff. Someone may actually enjoy the stuff, especially if they've already got a good buzz on from their beer. But either way, it'd be an interesting experience for everyone.  And if you're really adventurous, you'll buy a bunch of different types of caviar and test them all out. Get one from each type of fish if you can afford it and see if the expensive stuff is really worth it. You might find out that some of the cheaper stuff actually tastes a lot better. But of course you also might find out that all kinds of caviar kind of sucks. But hey, it's up to your taste buds to decide that!  Have a great day and enjoy your roe!
