If you're looking for something to do today then get ready for some orange fingers because today is National Cheese Doodle Day!  Don't wipe your hands on your pants!  Let's get right into celebrating National Cheese Doodle Day!

Why does something like cheese doodles get their own holiday? Because people seem to love eating them! And that's all the reason you seem to need to celebrate. They love them so much that they don't mind the ever so common orange fingertips they end up with after eating them for a while.  Cheese doodles are puffed corn snacks which are covered in cheese or cheese-flavored powder and dyed orange and actually got their start way back in the 1930s. The details are a bit fuzzy on who made the first cheese doodle-like product though.  The Flakall Corporation started making a deep-fried and salted puffed corn product called Korn Kurls, which then had cheese added to it. They applied for a patent in 1939 and later commercialized their production through the Adams Corporation in 1946, which was later bought by Beatrice Foods.

But then you have the Elmer Candy Corporation claiming that they invented it before 1936 and even held a contest to name their product. The winning name? CheeWees! Which is a name still used by Elmer's Fine Foods today.  Either way, people love these crunchy snacks and have been munching on them ever since. You're probably very familiar with Frito Lay's version (Cheetos) but you may want to focus more on the namesake brand today. Yes, that's right... Wise Foods Cheez Doodles! They've been around since the 1950s and it's one of their most popular brands. Cheez Doodles come in puffed, crunchy or even different shapes and you can get them in regular, reduced fat or white cheddar. All of which I'm sure will coat your fingertips quite nicely!  Dig in!

So how can you celebrate today?  Well, you can hop on down to your local grocery store or convenience store and pick up a bag of cheese doodles and chomp them on down.  Maybe try a variety you haven't had before; a different shape or flavor.  And if you're going to eat them on the road then be sure to grab some napkins too!

Or you could play a friendly game with your friends or family.  Each of you gets your own little, indentical bag of cheese doodles to eat from, but you add a little twist to see who is best at eating them.  Ah yes, you want to see who comes out with the cleanest looking fingers WITHOUT licking them off!  Winner gets to brag that they're the cleanest junk food eater haha.  And hey, if you've never had these before then today would be the day to try them out.  Personally I like the puffed version, if I'm going to eat them at all, so I'd recommend you start there.  But who knows, maybe you prefer a little extra crunch ;).  Now go turn your fingers orange!
