If you're looking for something to do today then I hope you like messy meals that taste better than they look.  That's right; it's National Cherry Cobbler Day!  Let's get right into celebrating National Cherry Cobbler Day!

Today is a holiday because cobblers are loved by many and cherry cobbler might be one of the most often consumed sweet versions of cobbler. So if you have hoards of people waiting to gobble cherry cobbler then you give in and set up a holiday! Once you eat some yourself you'll be all about the celebration!  It's said that the invention of cobbler might have began in the British American colonies where they would cover a stew in a pan with scones or biscuits fitted tightly together. Now when that is fully cooked it actually looks kind of like a cobblestone road.

But when I think of cobbler, I'm not really thinking of the savory kind... no, I'm all about the dessert! And at first I mistakenly thought cherry cobbler was cherry crumble, but there is a difference. A crumble will have a crisp topping that is usually made from oatmeal while a cobbler actually comes out a bit cake-like. What you do is melt down some butter in a pan, pour your cake batter on top of it (without stirring) and then just drop your sugared up cherries into the batter. You don't stir that either, because once it bakes the cake forms up around the cherries. It's similar to having strawberry shortcake, except it's not shortcake. It reminds me of a cherry popover except sweeter with more cherries and the cake is fluffier.  Would you like some?

So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, you might be in luck because a lot of restaurants might have this on their menu as a dessert. So check around and you might be able to celebrate as you relax after a good meal. And if you can't find a restaurant that serves it then maybe a local bakery or a bakery in your grocery store has whipped a batch for you.

But if you fail to find someone else that will make it for you then don't worry, it's really easy to make! The hardest part is just waiting for it to bake because you know it's going to be delicious! All you're going to need is some butter, flour, sugar, milk, baking powder and then some cherries. Finding a cherry cobbler recipe online is just as easy as it is to make it ;).  And you are very welcome to experiment with different cherries, different amounts of sugar and flour around your cherries and different ingredients in the cake part. You could go with really syrupy, sweet cherries or just lightly sugared, sour cherries. You could also add slight hints of flavor to your cake with extracts or spices. Have fun with it and broaden your horizons.  I hope you have a great day and don't make too much of a mess trying to gobble down your cobbler!
