If you're looking for something to do today then grab a bowl or a cone because it's National Chocolate Ice Cream Day!  Will that be one scoop or two?  Let's get right into celebrating National Chocolate Ice Cream Day!

Today is a holiday because things are heating up and going out for ice cream sounds like such a great idea. But chocolate ice cream is one of the most popular flavors out there so people felt the need to celebrate it. The heat combined with the popularity makes it so that it just makes sense to celebrate chocolate ice cream today!  But we've come a long way in terms of ice cream. From Persians pouring grape concentrate over snow to Chinese eating frozen milk and rice.

But the Arabs were actually the first to really milk up their ice cream and add sugar to it instead of fruit juices. It makes a lot of sense that a chilled treat would pop up in such a warm climate too. They would mix milk or cream with things like yogurt, rosewater (for flavor) and sometimes even dried fruit and nuts. That doesn't sound too bad to me!  But how popular is chocolate ice cream? Well, let me search real quick and see what a few different sites say are the most popular ice cream flavors. I checked three sites and one has it ranked at number one, above vanilla and Cookies & Cream. The other site has it ranked as second, but vanilla really has it beat in votes! And the last site doesn't even list chocolate! But in all fairness, Rocky Road is ranked number two which is mostly chocolate ice cream. So, I'd say it's pretty dang popular!  Do you have your spoons ready?

So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, the easiest way would be to go to your local ice cream parlor and gaze at all the chocolate-based ice creams they have. Get a cone or a bowl but go all out on the chocolate ice cream. You can get one variety or you can get a scoop of each kind that really tempts your taste buds. It's all about chocolate exploration!

But if a single bowl full or an ice cream cone isn't going to be enough for you then you're more than welcome to go to your grocery store and head to the freezer aisle. There might even be more of a selection there and you can bring a whole tub of ice cream home for you and whoever else you want to cool down with this treat. Try not to buy everything on the shelf but bring home lots of new chocolate treats to try out.  And if you really want to have a tasty chocolate ice cream treat then you can make some homemade ice cream! It might take a little bit of time but you have complete control over the ingredients and the resulting flavors. Homemade ice cream is some of the tastiest ice cream you'll ever pass over your tongue. Trust me ;).  Enjoy your day and try to avoid getting brain freeze!
