If you're looking for something to do today then add a little something to your morning coffee ritual because it's National Coffee Cake Day!  You know you can't turn down this moist, crumbly cake!  Let's get right into celebrating National Coffee Cake Day!

WHY IS THIS A HOLIDAY?

I'm sure you can guess why this is a holiday, go on... What? Oh, that's right I can't hear you! It's because people love eating coffee cake so much that they wanted an excuse to have an extra cake or two today. I'm not sure who makes all these food holidays but I'm sure you could start your own if you love some kind of food enough!  So what is a coffee cake? Is it a cake made from coffee grounds? No, it's not commonly the case but I'm sure you could try that out if you want. There are literal coffee cakes made like this but it's not quite what we're focusing on ;).

Is it a cake you dunk in your coffee? No, I don't think many people would do that, but you're welcome to try. So what is it? Well, it's just a cake that's typically served with coffee or set out in break rooms.  It's a moist cake with ingredients like fruit, nuts and cinnamon that you can quickly enjoy on a break or for breakfast. And most of these coffee cakes will have the signature, crumbly, streusel topping. I love this topping because it adds a nice contrast of textures.  So are you ready to munch on your delicious treat?

HOW TO CELEBRATE

So how can you celebrate today?  Well, it'd be very easy for you to head to a local bakery and pick up some coffee cake.  That way you don't have to take the time to make it, it's fresh from the source and you can enjoy it right away!  This is the quickest and easiest way to celebrate.  And since it's normally served up during break time then you'll definitely have to find a reason to take a few breaks today!

You can also pick up some ready-made coffee cake from your grocery store's bakery.  It might not be right out of the oven but it's still a bit fresh.  Or you can scan the grocery store aisles for pre-packaged coffee cakes.  They're definitely not fresh, but they might be cheaper and you'll have a wider selection to choose from.  Or you can take a stab at making your own coffee cake at home!  They make ready-made mixes for coffee cake or you can quickly look up a recipe online.  And if you want to get a little creative then feel free to add some interesting coffee into the mix.  There are so many different flavors of coffee that you'd be able to make limitless varieties of coffee cake.  But to me, a true coffee cake has that crumbly topping so don't forget to add that or I will frown... all the way from over here!  You don't want that, do you?  Haha, enjoy your day and try not to eat too much coffee cake!
