If you're looking for something to do today then get ready to kick back and relax because it's National Daiquiri Day!  This is one tasty little treat, with or without the alcohol!  Let's get right into celebrating National Daiquiri Day!

Well, people love their mixed drinks and when you drink you usually have more than one. And when it comes to daiquiris you have a lot of different options to choose from. You see it's a "family" of mixed drinks which has a bunch of different variations you can opt for. So, with these extra options, you're going to round up even more and more people that love daiquiris, of at least one variety. And you know what happens when a ton of people like something... they set up a holiday and celebrate it!  A daiquiri usually consists of rum, lime juice and sugar and it appears it got its start way back in 1900 at bar named Venus in Santiago, Cuba. The name "daiquiri" most likely comes from a mine of the same name that was 23 miles from Venus. It's even more likely when you realize that it was a bunch of American mining engineers that invented it. Originally they would pack a bunch of ice into a tall glass, pour a teaspoon of sugar over it, then squeeze two limes over it, then pour two or three ounces of rum over it and stir it with a long handled spoon.  But of course, as with all things, it evolved over time and is often mixed in a shaker with shaved ice now. Some people even add in different ingredients like maraschino liqueur, grapefruit, bananas and even Irish cream. Then of course there is the frozen daiquiri which is made in a blender so that all the ice is pulverized and the drink becomes like a smoothie. And with the heat we've been getting, I'm sure a lot of you will opt for the frozen daiquiri.  Are you thirsty yet?

So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, why don't you plan a night out with your friends, if you are opting for the alcoholic version? You can all get together and get to sipping on some daiquiris at your favorite bar and catch up on lost time. Even if you're not going to drink yours with alcohol, you can still get together and have a nice dinner along with your daiquiris. I'm sure you all could use a break for the night and celebrating today just happens to be a relaxing thing to do.  And if you're at a bar where the bartender really knows their stuff, then you can have them make you all kinds of different daiquiris. Try them all out if you can, but sip slowly so that you don't go overboard! I'm sure before long you'll find out which is the most favored daiquiri blend out of all of the varieties available. Once you figure that out, you can finish off the rest of the night with your new favorite daiquiris.  But if you'd rather make them yourself then break out your mixer gear or your blender. You can go with the basic mixes or search online for some creative variations. Heck, you can make your own mix if you like! Then you can invite a bunch of people over to sit with you out on your porch or deck and enjoy your liquid creations with you. And since you're not the only one there, you can have everyone else pitch in and try to come up with their own version.  Have a great day and enjoy your sippage!
