July 3rd is National Eat Beans Day
you're looking for something to do today then open wide because it's
National Eat Beans Day! There has to be at least one type of bean
you enjoy! Let's get right into celebrating National Eat Beans
WHY IS THIS A
Well, as with a lot of food holidays, the celebration is usually
based around the fact that a ton of people love eating what ever the
holiday is for. But the fact that they're telling you to eat beans
makes me think that the reason for today is not just because people
love beans. No, I think that on average we're slacking on our bean
eating! So some may love beans enough to celebrate them but others need
a little reminder to chomp on these tiny little treats. We must
just be smothered with too much other good food to really pay much
attention to beans these days, but that wasn't always the case. I mean,
beans have been around longer than a lot of the other plants we grow to
chomp on. You see them pop up even before ceramics were around, way
back in the early seventh millennium BC in Thailand. The Egyptians
stored them with their dead. And there were even beans found in
theGuitarrero Cave in Peru that date back to the second millennium BC!
there's a reason we keep growing them... there are so many different
types of beans that at least one will make you say "mmm" AND they're
good for you! So I don't care if you like chickpeas, peas, lentils,
lima beans, soybeans or kidney beans... you're getting something good
in you when you eat them! You're getting a good amount of fiber,
complex carbohydrates, protein and even some minerals like iron.
So eat up!
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, if you have some beans
in your house already you can make sure to add them to your meals
today. Pop open a can or start soaking some beans so that you can get
these little deals up in ya! Get creative or just go with something
basic like baked beans and hot dogs; it's up to you!
But if you
don't have any in your house and want to celebrate without too much
work then head on over to your favorite restaurant. I'm willing to bet
that almost all restaurants have a handful of different dishes that
include beans in them. So scan the menu and choose wisely, but don't be
afraid to order something you don't normally get. And then of
course you can go bean shopping at your local grocery store! Check out
their selection of fresh, canned and dried beans so you can go on a
bean adventure when you get home. If I were you I'd be looking for some
random beans I've never had before or I would already have a recipe in
mind and would go with the freshest of fresh beans. So what do you
think... do you want to try a new bean or a new recipe? Enjoy
your day; it's bean great celebrating with you!
