October 8th is National Fluffernutter Day
you're looking for something to do today then I hope you didn't just
eat because it's National Fluffernutter Day! You're going to want
to save some room for this sandwich! So let's get right into
celebrating National Fluffernutter Day!
WHY IS THIS A
Well, peanut butter is already a deliciously-loved treat and
it's eaten by millions of people every single day. And the way to make
a peanut butter sandwich even better, seems to be the act of adding
some kind of sweetness to it. Some go with honey, some go with jelly
but there are many who opt for marshmallow. It's such a creative flavor
and texture combination that it just begs to be celebrated and the
people have heard its cries. But I'm sure you already realize
what a fluffernutter is, right? You just take two pieces of bread, like
you do with any sandwich, and then you spread peanut butter on one
slice and marshmallow cream on another slice. That's it! The reason
it's called a fluffernutter is because Marshmallow Fluff is the most
commonly used marshmallow cream for this sandwich and of course the
nutter part is because of the peanut butter.
This is a very
common sandwich in my neck of the woods, the Northeastern United
States, but that doesn't mean you can't chomp into it too! But the
creators of Marshmallow Fluff don't want other people using that
fluffernutter name, because they trademarked it and they're willing to
go to court over it. The problem is, that trademark only covers printed
recipes and ice cream, so you might be able to get away with a few
things. But I think you should just stick to eating
fluffernutters for today!
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, if you already have
the three basic supplies then start slapping these things together! If
not, then you'll want to head to the grocery store and pick up what
you're missing. My guess is that you need some Fluff, am I right? But
feel free to step outside of the norm and try a fluffernutter with
chunky peanut butter or a flavored type of Fluff and spread it on all
kinds of different breads.
But let's get creative, shall we? A
fluffernutter is basically three things: bread, peanut butter and
marshmallow. So take a moment to brainstorm some ideas out of that and
then take a look at what I came up with. Bake a basic cake, but mix
those tiny marshmallows into the batter; that's your bread and
marshmallow. Then spread a peanut butter frosting on top and you're
good to go! Care for another idea? Take some of the bigger
marshmallows, stick a toothpick in one and dip it into some melted
peanut butter chips. Get it coated all over and then roll it in some
crushed cookie crumbs. Sit it on some wax paper upside down, let it
cool off and then you've got some bite-sized awesomeness on a stick!
What kind of ideas can you come up with? Have a great day and
enjoy that fluffernutter magic!
