you're looking for something to do today then I hope hope you're not on
a diet because it's National Fritters Day! If you are on a diet,
then you're just going to have to take a cheat day! But let's get
right into celebrating National Fritters Day!
WHY IS THIS A
Well sadly, because it's not too healthy, fried food taste
pretty dang good... and some people just can't get enough of things
like fritters. Plus there are so many different types of fritters you
can make that even the pickiest eaters will like some kind of fritters.
So, what usually happens when you have millions of people that enjoy
eating a certain kind of food? Out pops yet another culinary holiday
for all of us to celebrate this well-loved food! But do you know
what a fritter is? To be considered a fritter, all you have to do is
cover some kind of food in a batter and then fry it. Yep, that's it!
You just whip up a batter with some flour, eggs, milk, butter, baking
powder and maybe a little salt and you're good to go. Then you get to
decide what you want to pop inside your lovely batter. Can you see why
so many people want to celebrate a food like this?
I mean, I use
to love eating chicken fritters with a little honey mustard on the
side, but you can go all up and down the food pyramid with fritters.
Fruit-infused fritters are pretty common; like an apple fritter. Corn
fritters are really popular too! But there is no limit to what you can
fry in a fritter batter... trust me; I've proved that! What kind
of fritters do you want to try?
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, there are many ways
you can celebrate but the easiest way, for food holidays anyway, is to
head to a local restaurant. Most places will have some kind of fritter
for you to munch on, so it shouldn't be that hard to find what you're
looking for. But it could be pretty fun to explore new types of
fritters, because you never know what they will have on their menu. Are
you up for a game of chance? But you know, you can also pick up
random fritters at the grocery store that are ready to be fried up. All
you need is a deep fryer or a deep pot and a thermometer and you're
good to go. But if you'd rather whip up your own batter and have a
little more freedom on what's inside your fritters, then pick up a few
extra ingredients! As you saw above, fritter batter really doesn't have
any out of the norm ingredients, so it will be an easy day in the
kitchen for you.
But you know you have to explore a little with
your fritters, right? Think of all the awesome food there is out
there... now imagine it fried up inside a fritter... does it seem
tempting? Then go for it! Put your favorite fruit, vegetable, meat,
dairy product, candy or anything else you can think of into that
fritter batter and get into some taste bud exploration. How does a
yogurt fritter or a cabbage fritter sound to you? What about a Philly
cheesesteak fritter or a malted milk ball fritter? Have a great
day and enjoy the fried goodness!
