If you're looking for something to do today then push your ice cream aside because it's National Frozen Yogurt Day!  Less fat, but just as tasty!  Let's get right into celebrating National Frozen Yogurt Day!

Once you've tasted frozen yogurt, you won't have to ask why this is a holiday. It's just as tasty as ice cream but it's actually a bit healthier for you! And since most people like ice cream, a healthier option is very appealing... so why not celebrate it for a day?  Frozen yogurt popped up in the New England states of the United States in the 1970s as a tasty soft serve dessert. H.P. Hood is the is the company to thank for this treat that they called Frogurt. In 1978, a company called Brigham's followed suit and put out Humphreez Yogurt, which was the first packaged frozen yogurt dessert.

The treat was intented to be a healthier option than ice cream, because it used milk instead of cream, but there was a problem... some people said it was too tart! So they sweetened things up and frozen yogurt took off in the 80s and hasn't looked back since. In fact, in the early 90s, frozen yogurt accounted for 10% of the market for frozen desserts!  If you taste the modern version of frozen yogurt you might not even be able to taste the difference from the same exact kind of ice cream. But flip them over and you'll see the difference in the fat content! But let's not be fooled, if you're trying to watch your weight, you should still limit your intake of this tasty treat.... at least on all days but today!  Dig in!

So how can you celebrate today?  Well, if you're lucky, a bunch of your local restaurants might have it on the menu. You could go out to eat today and treat yourself to a nice dish of frozen yogurt. What better way to finish your meal than with spoonfuls of low-fat, sweet goodness?  Or you could go to a place that specializes in frozen yogurt. A lot of ice cream places will also carry this because they want to tailor to all different types of customers. They know what you like ;).
Or you could just head to the store and pick up a container of frozen yogurt. It's right with the ice cream and there are TONS of flavors for you to choose from. Try not to get too overwhelmed, but don't be afraid to try out a few different flavors.  Or if you're feeling really handy in the kitchen today then you can make your own! It's not that difficult, it just takes a bit of time and it'd probably be a good idea for you to have an ice cream maker. But if you've ever made homemade ice cream before, then trust me... homemade frozen yogurt is going to knock your socks into the laundry basket!  I'm not sure what option you'll choose, but I'm sure your day will be a delicious one!
