If you're looking for something to do today then get ready for some slithering sweetness because it's National Gummi Worm Day!  Never before has there been a better time to eat worms!  Let's get right into celebrating National Gummi Worm Day!

Well, I think you know why. People love candy; the sweetness and the variety of flavors. And some of the most favored candies are not only the easiest to consume but are also quite fun to eat. So it's no wonder why people love chewing on sweet, gummi worms! They are in fun shapes, a wide variety of flavors and they're easy on your teeth. In fact, they kind of give your jaw a little workout. The gummi-quality of sweets like this is so well loved that they even make adult, gummi vitamins now! So yeah, these worms get their own holiday.  But do you want to know the real reason for the date chosen? Because it's gummi worms' birthday! Gummi candy has been around for quite some time in many different shapes, most notably gummi bears, but this is the day that gummi worms were first introduced, by Trolli in 1981. It was the 60th anniversary of the blessed gummi bears, so they popped out yet another cult classic: gummi worms! These two inch, dual-flavored worms have become so well loved that they will never fall off the radar.  And you know, if I had to choose between gummi bears or gummi worms, I'd probably go with the gummi worms for a couple reasons. The biggest reason is that you get two flavors in one and they are sometimes the best flavor combinations too. Red and clear gummi bears are my favorites and guess what? That's the two colors that are combined on gummi worms! Another reason is that they're easier to get out of the container. They have a longer body and they're bigger so there's really more to eat with each gummi deal. BUT I will say that Sour Patch Kids are a bit better than Sour Gummi Worms, and I think that's due to the type of gummi stuff they use.  But are you ready for some gummi worms?

So, how can you celebrate today?  I think this is an easy one... head on down to your candy store! Go somewhere that has those huge bins where you can buy your gummi goodness by the pound and you're set for the day. And if you want to be a picky eater, you can spend a little extra time and sort through and only choose your favorite flavors. I know I'd end up with just the red/clear ones if I did that! Just make sure you're not sorting through them with your hands; no one wants your fingers in their mouth.  And yeah, this might seem like a holiday for kids, but trust me; a lot of grown ups love gummi worms! So if you buy a ton of them you should sprinkle them around and let others enjoy the sweetness with you. Set out a dish of them on your desk if you work in an office. Offer people a gummi worm instead of gum after a meal. Or have a "can you guess how many gummi worms are in this jar" contest, to bring out the real kid in you!  But these edible worms can be consumed in many different ways. Think of all the fun you can have by adding these into different treats. What if you baked a chocolate cake or brownies and sprinkled gummi worms all through it before you baked them? They'd appear to be in their natural habitat (chocolate dirt) when someone cut into it, and it'd add a nice amount of flavor too! And they wouldn't be a bad addition to ice cream either, although they might be a bit chewier. But what about making your own gummi tea? You know how bubble tea has the chewy pearls of tapioca in it? Well, why don't you make some bubble tea but skip the tapioca and add in chunks of gummi worms instead? I bet the results would be much sweeter. ;)  Enjoy your day, you worm eaters!
