October 1st is National Homemade Cookies Day
you're looking for something to do today then I hope you're good at
baking because it's National Homemade Cookies Day! It's time to
fill your house with the scent of awesomeness! So let's get right
into celebrating National Homemade Cookies Day!
WHY IS THIS A
Do you really even need to ask? I mean, if you can't stand
eating sweets then sure, I can understand why you'd ask that. But when
it comes to cookies, homemade is always the best! They're still warm,
you know what went into the mix and you get to eat a TON of them! And
yeah, there are a lot of official holidays where people normally bake
up cookies but we just went through the whole summer and didn't have
such a holiday. So I can see why people wanted to set up a holiday for
homemade cookies today; they're jonesing for them! But what is a
cookie really? Well, all it really is is a flat, baked good that
usually contains flour, sugar, eggs and a bunch of other ingredients.
So cookies are balls of sweet dough that, when baked, flatten out as
the ingredients heat up. And it seems that these treats got their start
in Persia in the 7th century, because sugar was very commonly used in
that area. But it wasn't until 10 centuries later that these sugary
discs made their way to America.
And even though cookies have
evolved in so many different ways, their appears to be some really
popular favorites. If you asked someone to name a type of homemade
cookie that they love, then I'm willing to bet that they will say at
least one of the following types of cookies. They will probably mention
chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, snickerdoodles, sugar
cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies or even macaroons. We've all eaten at
least one of these cookies! Which will you choose to eat today?
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, I'm sorry to all you
lazy CeleGREATERS out there but it does say homemade in the title of
the holiday, so you can't just go out and buy cookies! But you can get
someone else to cook them for you. ;) If you honestly suck at baking or
just are that lazy then tell someone who is good at baking about
today's holiday. Help them find a recipe, maybe even go buy the
ingredients for them but, if they know you well, they know they will be
the ones doing the baking. So kick back and relax while you wait for
them to be made, but get ready to be asked to do the dishes! But
I know some of you are great cooks so why don't you start searching for
some awesome cookie recipes? Go to sites like Allrecipes, search for
"cookies" and then organize them by their rating to find some of the
best cookie recipes out there. I like to look for recipes that are
really creative or are just plain weird, because I like letting my
taste buds explore a little, but let YOUR taste buds guide you to the
perfect recipe! You can even have a couple people pick out their
favorites and then you can eat bake your own type of cookies today.
Then, once all of your cookies are done, you can sample each type and
see whose eyes and mental taste memory selected the best type of
cookie. You never know which cookies will look or sound as good as they
really are until you bite into them. Have a great day and don't
forget to dunk a couple of these babies in milk!
