If you're looking for something to do today then get ready to splash your tonsils because it's National Punch Day!  It's time to party for no other reason than to drink punch!  So let's get right into celebrating National Punch Day!

Well, just think about it for a moment... how many times have you gone to a party or a social gathering only to find a giant bowl of fruity goodness waiting there for you to sip on? Someone always seems to feel the need to make some punch and it's probably because it tastes so dang awesome! So if almost every time there is a celebration you have punch, then why even question why you would have a celebration for punch?  It's always there, it's popular and people love it and that's why you have celebrations for certain things. But this drink originated in India and the word punch comes from the Hindi word panch or paantsch, as the drink was originally called. And sure, it was a fruity drink that contained sugar, lemon and water but it also had alcohol, tea and a bunch of spices. So it was kind of like a alcoholic lemon tea.

But when it comes to punches of today, regardless of if it's spiked with alcohol or not, it usually contains fruity beverages, carbonated beverages, actual fruit and maybe even some frozen treats. There are so many different possibilities of mixtures you could use when making punch that you may not end up drinking the exact same punch twice in your lifetime, unless of course you really like a certain type.  Bottoms up!

So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, first you're going to need a pretty bowl, now aren't you? I mean, punch really seems to stand out when you have it in a nice, see through bowl with a matching ladle. So go ahead and break yours out or pick one up at the store if you don't have one. Because it's not really much of a celebration if you're drinking out of a 5 gallon paint bucket, now is it?  Once you've got that covered you need to figure out what you're going to put in your punch. What kind of fruit do you like? What kind of soda do you like? Do you like any ice creams or sherbets? Do you feel like getting drunk tonight? Brainstorm in all these areas and then start thinking of how these ingredients will taste together. Blend them together in your mind in a way that you know will be appealing to your tongue and then go get those ingredients!

And you may even want to make quite a few different punches if you plan on celebrating with others. In fact, why don't you invite a bunch of people over tonight and have your different punches sitting on a table, waiting for your guests to drink. Don't tell anyone why you're having a party just say they should come over and party with you tonight. And when people get there and ask, "what's the occasion" just quickly change the subject and say, "you've got to try out this punch!" I think they will all get the idea after a while and if not, at least no one went thirsty!  Have a great day and enjoy the long line for the bathroom!
