If you're looking for something to do today then get ready to fill your house with the aroma of roasted meats.  That's right, it's National Roasted Leg of Lamb Day!  Let's get right into celebrating National Roasted Leg of Lamb Day!

Today is a holiday simply because people just can't seem to get enough lamb leg in their life. They love this tender meat so much that they set aside a day to celebrate it. I'm not sure who "they" are but this day's been celebrated for quite some time.  Lamb meat is meat from a young sheep, usually that hasn't quite reached one year old. Now why would anyone butcher a baby sheep? Well, because the meat is very tender and some people are against this while others salivate at the thought of roasted lamb meat.

But a leg of lamb is of course the whole rear leg wrapped up and tightly held together with strings so that it doesn't fall apart as you roast it. You can cut these off after it's finished cooking.  People will usually marinade their leg of lamb overnight so that the flavor really soaks into the meat. And personally I don't think the roast would taste quite as good without the marinade plus, depending on your marinade, it'll fill your house with amazing scents as it roasts. The meat has a unique taste that I don't really care for on its own, so marinade it up! But then you just bake it for about an hour and a half to ensure it's cooked the whole way through.  Are you ready for some tender sheep meat?

So how can you celebrate today?  Well, the easiest way would be to find a local restaurant that serves roasted leg of lamb. That way you don't have to wait so long for it to cook and it might taste pretty dang amazing being cooked by a professional. So call around to see who has it on their menu and get ready for a great celebratory meal!

But if you'd rather cook it yourself then may I recommend that you go to the grocery store and get a boneless leg of lamb. You'll also want to get some marinade ingredients, so look online for a recipe if you don't have a marinade in mind already. I've found that they're similar to a glaze you'd use on a ham but they also include ingredients like lemon zest or rosemary to really add some flavor to the meat, not just sweetness.  And if you're cooking this at home then it would be a great time to invite some friends or family over as it roasts. You'll have plenty of time to make some side dishes together as it cooks in your oven. So you really have a great excuse to reconnect with people in your life and enjoy a great meal together today.  I hope you enjoy your day and make sure that your meat's cooked the whole way through!
