April 29th is National Shrimp Scampi Day
you're looking for something to do then I hope you like seafood because
it's National Shrimp Scampi Day! Sweet, buttery goodness!
Let's get right into celebrating National Shrimp Scampi Day!
WHY IS THIS A
If you don't like seafood or if you've never had shrimp
before then you might be wondering why this is even a holiday. But it's
such a delicious meal that someone decided at some point that we needed
a special day set aside to celebrate this Americanized creation.
How is it Americanized? Well, scampi actually refers to a
lobster called Langoustines or Norway lobsters. But for some reason
people started to refer to shrimp as scampi; perhaps because they're
both small crustaceans?
And if that isn't bad enough, scampi is
also a term used to describe a type of cooking... hence the reason this
dish is called "shrimp scampi". But what is shrimp scampi?
it's a buttery dish that is usually served on top of or on the side of
noodles. All you really have to do is melt down some butter and then
add in a few other flavorful ingredients like Dijon mustard, lemon
juice, garlic and parsley. And then you just pour it over your shrimp
before you bake or saute them. It's a really flavorful, butter sauce
that rarely disappoints! Are you ready to eat?
So how can you celebrate today? Well, it's not going to be
that hard for you to celebrate today at all. This is such a common meal
that you could go to almost any restaurant and order up a plate of
shrimp scampi. And that really is the best way to celebrate, right? Sit
in a nice comfy chair while you munch on appetizers and just wait for
your plate of shrimp scampi to be set down in front of you.
if you don't feel like going out then you can quickly make this
yourself at home. All you need is some shrimp, butter, Dijon mustard or
dry white wine, lemon juice, garlic and parsley. If you don't have any
of these ingredients then head to your local grocery store and pick
them up. And you can grab a scampi mix if you prefer, but it's not
going to taste the same as fresh ingredients.
Then you can
invite some friends or family over or just call your family downstairs
for dinner and you'll seem like some kind of hero for cooking such an
amazing meal. Just don't tell them how easy it was for you to make it
or they might not offer to do your dishes for you ;). You
even go a little crazy and add in some of the actual "scampi" lobster
into the mix if you want to have a true shrimp scampi meal. I'm sure
the flavors would combine quite well into a high class feast!
can also put it on top or on the side of anything you want.
are a ton of different kinds of noodles and rice that would go well
with this dish. And some people just eat it with bread.
Enjoy your day and your meal!
