February 21st is National Sticky Bun Day
you're looking for something to do today then don't be afraid to get a
little sticky because it's National Sticky Bun Day! One of
few times that being sticky is a good thing. Let's get right
celebrating National Sticky Bun Day!
WHY IS THIS A
If you've ever had a freshly made sticky bun then you
need to ask why this is a holiday. People love these gooey, sugary buns
so much that they need a day set aside to celebrate them. So why not
join in on the celebration? Sticky buns might have actually
originated with the Germans through what they call Schnecken. When the
German immigrants came to North America in the 18th century they
brought their sticky bun creation with them. And everywhere they went,
sticky buns seemed to pop up and stay even to this day. So they have to
be some kind of awesome, right?
To make sticky buns you roll out
dough, butter it and sprinkle on delicious things like brown sugar,
cinnamon or pecans and then tightly roll it up. Then you slice it into
individual buns and put them into a cake pan. BUT first you want to put
your sticky mixture into the bottom of the pan. The "sticky" part of
this recipe can consist of things like maple syrup, honey, sugar, nuts
or butter. So the final taste of your sticky buns is really up to you.
Then, once you've packed all your buns in on top of your
goodness, you bake them and then flip them upside down onto a platter
when they're done. Now you have a "loaf" of sticky buns with the sugary
goodness on top. Just try your best to let them cool a little bit
before you start chomping them down! If you make these
bet you won't be able to eat just one!
So how can you celebrate today? Well, the best way to
celebrate would be to go to a bakery or somewhere that bakes sticky
buns fresh every single day. That way you don't have to make anything
but you get an amazing tasting sticky bun. Plus, I'm sure
have the perfect beverage to go with your sticky bun.
if you don't have a place near you that makes sticky buns then you can
always opt for pre-packaged sticky buns. They won't be as good but
you'll have a selection to choose from and again you won't have to cook
anything. But if you have a few hours then definitely bake up
batch of sticky buns yourself. The only reason I say a few hours is
because you have to let the dough rise, but trust me it's worth it!
You'll end up saving a little money per sticky bun and you'll have a
whole platter of gooey goodness waiting for you to eat today. But, if
you don't live alone, that aroma is going to attract everyone in your
house to the kitchen. So eat yours before they get there!
your day and don't get too sticky!
