October 4th is National Taco Day
you're looking for something to do today then I hope you have an
appetite because it's National Taco Day! Go round up all your
favorite ingredients! And let's get right into celebrating
National Taco Day!
WHY IS THIS A
Really? You have to ask? Tacos are so amazingly well-loved by
many people all over the world! We've got hard and soft tacos, taco
salad, taco soup and Taco Tuesday. So the popularity for this food is
definitely there! And being this deep into the year of holidays, we all
know what happens when a certain type of food is this popular: it gets
its own holiday! I don't know why today was chosen but when people
choose to eat tacos all day, you don't just let them do it, you join
them! And while I'm not sure why it's called a taco, this tasty
little meal was feasted on by Mexicans way before Europeans ever showed
up there. And it seems that they use to like to chomp on fish tacos.
But all a taco really is is a tortilla folded around some filling, so
the possibilities are pretty much endless! And yes, you eat this
without utensils... as if you didn't already know that.
people like to start out with some kind of protein in their tacos. So
you're going to see things like beef, fish, chicken and beans in a lot
of tacos. But that's just not enough flavor for a taco, so a lot of
people will add in some dairy products like cheese or sour cream. And
even still people want to put more in their tacos like lettuce,
tomatoes and onions. Did you think we were done already? Nope! What
about some salsa or guacamole? Now you can eat!
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, the easiest option is
to go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant, of course! You can find a
sit-down restaurant or you can just hit up a fast food joint, it's all
up to you. Either way, you're going to end up with as many tacos as
your wallet allows you to stack on a plate. But feel free to liven
things up a bit and get something on your tacos that you haven't really
eaten before! But if you have a family or a close-knit group of
friends then why don't you just make a bunch of tacos at home? This is
one of those meals that you can prepare halfway and then have everyone
put together their own tacos. So think about what kind of meats, beans,
veggies, dairy products, salsas and dips you want to have available.
And you might as well get soft taco shells as well as hard ones,
because you know someone out there still prefers that solid crunch when
they bite into a taco. Even if it does split in half on the first bite!
And I'd have to say that one of the best ways to make today fun
would be to have a couple ingredients that only the bravest of hungry
souls would try out. You know, things like taste bud melting salsas,
weird meats that normally aren't put in tacos and the oddest cheeses
you can find, shredded up and waiting to be sprinkled on a taco. You
can warn people ahead of time, if you're nice, or you can just watch
and see what happens when someone unknowingly adds one of these mystery
ingredients to their taco. Have a great day and enjoy the show!
