you're looking for something to do today then grab a coat because it's
National Take a Hike Day! But be sure to leave a trail of
breadcrumbs so you can find your way home! Let's get right into
celebrating National Take a Hike Day!
WHY IS THIS A
Well, I'm sure you realize that we all need to get outside from
time to time and that hiking can be some good exercise, right? But, I'm
almost positive that you realize that things are starting to get chilly
outside... and humans, like bears, tend to want to "hibernate" when
that happens and stay inside. So today is a little kick in the pants to
get you outside, so that you realize that it's not that cold out and
there's still a lot to explore! And even though hiking normally
refers to taking a walk on a trail out in the woods, it could also just
be a scenic walk in your area. I realize that some of you live in
cities, so don't think you're excluded from the fun! And if you're
reluctant to go on a hike, then think about these few facts... you get
to release some stress, get a little workout, explore and see new
things. And if you have kids, it's a good way to drain some of the
energy out of them!
I'll even help you out a little more and
tell you what you need for a successful hiking trip. First you'll want
to look up some trails and find one that won't be too difficult for you
and has interesting things along the path. Print out that trail map and
a map to the trailhead and you're ready to get suited up. Pop on some
good hiking boots, comfortable socks, loose fitting pants, probably a
shirt, a coat and maybe a hat and gloves. Then all you need is water,
snacks and a backpack to put them in. Now go take a hike!
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, if you live near some
woods or have a favorite trail then all you have to do is head out
there. Get suited up, invite some friends and make a day out of it. You
just had fast food yesterday, so I'm sure you could use the extra
calorie burning. See, I told you that you'd burn it off today! ;)
And one thing I forget to mention above was to bring a camera or
a video camera, so that you can capture your new adventure. I love
sharing what's out there with other people! It helps them experience it
a little and it encourages them to get outside themselves. Trust me; if
you get a bunch of amazing pictures or make a cool video, then you're
going to have quite a few people asking to go with you next time.
to go on a different kind of adventure? Do you have GPS on your phone?
Well, then you can go geocaching! And if you're not sure what that is,
it's kind of like an outdoor scavenger hunt, based on GPS coordinates.
Someone goes out and hides something, uploads the coordinates, to one
of the many geocaching sites out there, and then someone has to try and
find it. You never know what you'll find and you don't need a map; you
just rely on your GPS and those coordinates to find it! Have a
great day and I hope you experience some new things!
