If you're looking for something to do today then get ready to spread some wisdom because it's Quotations Day!  Some words are worth never forgetting!  Let's get right into celebrating Quotations Day!

Today is a holiday because there are certain lines, words, sentences or full paragraphs that deserve to be repeated over and over again, because they will always be true and helpful to anyone who hears them. Words of wisdom that are so profound that they still ring true, centuries into the future. And plenty of people look for and share quotations on a daily basis, so it's no wonder that people are going to want to celebrate these wonderful words. Now we have a day dedicated just to these magical quotations and that day is today!  But the reason that this day was chosen as the holiday is because this is the day, way back in 1855, when Bartlett's Familiar Quotations was first published. John Bartlett was often asked about different quotations, since he worked in the University Book Store in Cambridge, Massachusetts, so he started putting together a book of quotations to help people out. The first edition had quotes from 169 different people like William Shakespeare.  But people love their quotations so much that the seventeenth edition just came out in 2003! That is one long running book series, huh? Now you can find a bunch of quotations from US Presidents and even pop culture quotes. But some people really didn't think that having Seinfeld quotes in this book series was a good call. I mean sure, anyone can say something of importance but to go from Shakespeare to Seinfeld is a bit of a jump, don't you think?  Ah well, what are your favorite quotations?

So, how can you celebrate today?  Well, how about you start out the day by looking for some kind of inspirational quote. Look for something that really hits home for you and can help you today or for the rest of your life. You can look online and find a TON, so don't worry about not finding one that works for you. And when you do find a quotation you really like the print it out in a nice looking font and hang it on your wall somewhere where you'll always see it. You could even paint the quote onto something if you wanted to be artistic.  And you might even want to play some quotation games with your friends today. You could play one where you sit in a circle and you each have maybe 30 seconds to come up with a quotation of any kind, that at least one other persons knows is a true quote. Once you say yours, it moves to the next person and the next person and so on. But if you can't think of one in 30 seconds then you're out and you keep going until there's only one person left. You could also play a game where people try to guess who said the quotations.  But if you really want to tap into your mind today then why don't you try to come up with a quotation of your own? Everyone wants to be remembered for something, right? So take a little time and think about life in general and things you and many others go through. Is there anything short, sweet and straight to the point you could say about these things that you think others would benefit from hearing? Then write it down, tell it to someone else, put the quote on the wall or just practice what you preach and live by those words.  Have a great day and enjoy your words.
