June 30th is Social Media Day
you're looking for something to do today then maybe you should put the
internet to good use today because it's Social Media Day! Social
media is EVERYWHERE so you're going to have a ton of options!
Let's get right into celebrating Social Media Day!
WHY IS THIS A
Well, when you sit down at your computer for a good amount of
time on the internet, what do you usually do? Do you check Facebook to
see what your friends are up to? Do you check your subscriptions on
YouTube to see if there are any new videos up to help you pass the
time? Do you check out random photos on Reddit, Tumblr, Flickr or
Deviantart? Well, then you're using social media pretty much every day!
So, when something is used this often by so many people, then it
deserves to be celebrated for the ways it's changed how we run our
lives. If you don't feel like social media has changed your life
that much then take a look at how you interact with people now through
social media. You can pretty much comment on anything anyone posts to
instantly let them know what you think about it. You can like it or
dislike it, share it, favorite it and so on. Plus you can tag pictures
to link all your friends to a specific event.
You can easily
stay up to date on what all your friends are doing and you can make new
friends in the process. No one is really that shy online and people
love "meeting" new interneticals. So you can not only connect with your
friends but you can also connect to society as a whole. Distance isn't
as much of a factor when it comes to keeping in contact, knowing what
each other is doing and possibly making plans to meet in person.
Gasp, we can meet in the real world?!
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, you could easily just
be sure to use your social media outlets today but you do that every
day, right? So why don't you vow to post a tweet every hour you're
awake today or post a short video every hour. Really let people connect
with you from all over for every hour of the day. You could even post a
picture every hour at a number of different social media sites.
Or you could spruce up your social media profiles today. If
you're good at coding or can find a good theme then you can really draw
some attention to your profile. So start brainstorming some ideas on
how to make your Twitter, Tumblr or even your MySpace profile a bit
more awesome today. Then "tag" someone and tell them to try to make
their profile look better than yours and have them tag someone else.
You'd be surprised how long this dorky little chains keep going.
Or you can always have a social media meet up since that's what
the original idea for this holiday is all about. Mashable actually set
this holiday up in 2010 and it seems to be a pretty big hit. All
someone has to do is set up a little meet up in their city and just
spread the word and maybe you'll end up meeting all those people you
normally type at. Practice your best emoticon faces and get ready for
your big day! Don't make me "dislike" what you end up doing today!
