July 8th is Video Games Day
you're looking for something to do today then kick your feet up and
relax because it's Video Games Day! As if you weren't already
going to play them today, right? Let's get right into celebrating
Video Games Day!
WHY IS THIS A
I'm not sure why this day was chosen but any day is good enough
for a celebration like this because video games have been loved for
years! It doesn't matter which video game platform you play on, to be
considered a true gamer you put in many hours of game play a week. It's
fun, it's addicting and so many people are playing these games so why
not celebrate it, right? You can always use another excuse to fire up
your game system anyway. Video games are young when you look at
them in terms of our total history but they've rocketed to popularity
so fast! The first video game popped up back in 1947 when Thomas T.
Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann applied for a patent for a "Cathode
ray tube Amusement Device". Sounds pretty amusing! And there was
actually a game out in 1958 called Tennis for Two that used an
oscilloscope as a display.
But, as with most electronic
gadgets, video games evolved so quickly! I started out playing games
like Indiana Jones on an Atari then hopped over to playing Oregon Trail
on Apple computers in elementary school. Then I got hooked playing my
neighbor's Nintendo and eventually their Super Nintendo too. I then
upgraded to playing PC games that required those big floppy discs. Then
along came Bond competitions on the Nintendo 64, hours of Tony Hawk on
the PlayStation, and then eventually I bought my very own Xbox. New
systems come out so often and the games keep pouring out nonstop; it's
an addiction to entertainment that will never end! Have any good
cheat codes? ;)
So, how can you celebrate today? Well, if you already have a
video game system then plan on playing that baby all day! Take the day
off, order pizza and get to gaming. Heck, invite some friends over so
that you don't seem like too much of a hermit. Or, you can always
connect with your friends online and play with them that way. Yep, that
means you don't need to put pants on today if you don't want to!
why don't you treat yourself a little today and get that video game
you've been dying to play for a while? Or maybe rent a video game
that's been getting some awesome reviews. Since you're going to be
going at it all day, why don't you try and beat the whole game today?
But that might be impossible with some games, so you may need to set a
smaller goal. And you can always compete with your friends to
see who can reach that goal the fastest. Or if you have games like Halo
or even the old school Bond you can have competitions to see who is the
best gamer. You can take it seriously if you want and set up a
tournament where the winner gets a hefty gift card to their favorite
video game store. Some colorful words may be thrown but I'm sure you'll
all be having fun! Have a great day and stop moving your hands;
you don't have a Wii!
